Hi, this is Lenny.
If you have been following me for some time, you may have noticed that I have disappeared from the world of production and, to some extent, from the world of content on YouTube. It wasn't an easy decision, but today I want to share with you why I stopped producing , what I learned from the experience, and why, after some time, I believe it was the right choice for me.
Regain Creative Freedom by Creating for Yourself
In the beginning, producing music for me was an experience of absolute freedom. I would open FL Studio every day to learn and experiment, not caring who would listen or judge the result. Over time, however, I forced myself to create music with a specific purpose: to meet external expectations. This turned a free passion into a rigid and unfulfilling routine.
Focus on the idea that music, or any art form, should be for you first. Make projects that excite you, without thinking about usefulness or the judgment of others. Find times to create without specific goals-it will help you rediscover the authentic pleasure of creativity.
Develop an Authentic Art Direction
One of the main problems I encountered was feeling compelled to follow trends. Creating what "works" on Spotify or Instagram took me away from the opportunity to develop a personal style. When you constantly adapt to others, you lose the opportunity to really express yourself.
Take time to explore who you are as an artist. Experiment with sounds and ideas that represent you, even if they seem far removed from current trends. Embrace the risk of being different-the audience will appreciate authenticity more than any pre-packaged formula.
Align Your Creativity with Your Personal Vision
For me, music production has always been a means to a larger goal: to build a business project with Hypn. I never imagined myself as a full-time producer, but as someone working on a project that combines creativity and business. This realization has helped me make decisions that are more consistent with my priorities.
Ask yourself what you really want. If your goal is to make music production your main career, invest the necessary time and energy. But if, like me, you have a different vision, don't be afraid to follow that path. Being true to yourself is crucial to building a fulfilling creative life.
Avoid Burnout by Cultivating Curiosity
One of the biggest mistakes I made was to stop learning and experimenting. I had locked myself into a routine in which I only produced what I already knew how to do. This reduced my enthusiasm and made me lose the sense of discovery that I initially loved.
Never stop learning. Spend time experimenting with new genres, tools and techniques. Prioritize the process over the result. When you produce without pressure, you give yourself a chance to rediscover the pleasure of creation.
Create a Space for Creativity in Your Daily Life
In addition to music production, my life is full of commitments related to work, travel, family, etc. This made it difficult to devote time and energy to production, especially when it was no longer a priority for me.
Find a balance between your passions and your schedule. You don't need to produce every day: even a few moments a week devoted to creativity can be enough to keep your connection to music or any other art form alive.
Conclusion
This has been my story, a journey of ups and downs that has taught me important lessons. The biggest one? Never forget why you started and what makes you happy.
